Tusker title hopes take a hit after Shabana stalemate as KCB slip keeping Gor Mahia alive

The brewers are on a four-match winless run that seem to have slowed their push for the league title.

Tusker FKFPL title chances suffered a major blow after they drew 1-1 with giant-killers Shabana on Wednesday afternoon.

The Brewers were lucky to secure a point at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, after Eric Balecho scored in the 90th minute to cancel out Keith Imbali’s first half strike.

Imbali, who joined Shabana from Kariobangi Sharks this month when he became the club’s fourth signing, found the back of the net in the 32nd minute.

Victor Wanyama has hinted at where he is likely to play next as he weighs his options from a number of several offers on his table.

Tusker’s quest for maximum points was evident in the second half as the 2021 league winners pushed for the equalizer at the restart following a lethargic first half.

Their persistence paid off at the tail-end of the game, although Tusker failed to secure maximum points that would have returned the team back to winning ways.

Benni McCarthy picks his assistant coach for Harambee Stars job

South African legend Benni McCarthy has reportedly decided on the men who will join his technical bench when he takes over as Harambee Stars coach.

This was Tusker’s fourth consecutive draw after lately dropping points against defending champions Gor Mahia, title chasers Police FC, and KCB.

Tusker remain second on the log with 40 points, a point less than leaders Police as the title race is expected to go down to the wire.

It was also the fourth time in a row that Ryan Ogam has failed to score. The Golden Boot-chasing striker who boasts of 15 goals thus far, is experiencing a mini-goal drought. Tusker coach Charles Okere must be a worried man after another draw that seemingly dented the team’s title chances.

Elsewhere, KCB were held to a 1-1 draw against 2008 League Champions Mathare United.

Patrick Otieno handed the bankers a deserved lead in the 24th minute before Centric Asango equalized in the 83rd minute. KCB remain in fourth position courtesy of inferior goal difference with 36 points same like third-placed Gor Mahia.
