The East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) have emphasized their mission to restore peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as the security crisis in the eastern region is worsened.

At a high -level meeting held on February 8 in Tanzania, Zimbabwean President and SADC Chairman Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and Kenyan President and EAC Chairman William Ruto They led a discussion aimed at stabilizing in a conflict -affected area.
What role will Obasanjo take responsibility for the DRC crisis?
According to a statement shared by President Ruto, the meeting appointed three prominent African leaders including retired Kenyan President Uhuru KenyattaFormer Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe-being Luanda and Nairobi's peace process facilitators under the Joint EAC-SADC system.
As part of a peaceful effort, a group of defense professionals of EAC conducted a two -day session to set up important instructions, including immediately and unconditional ceasefire, humanitarian aid, reopening main distribution channels, implementing Goma security plan, and reopening of the airport of goma.
“The conference considered six key orders: the ceasefire immediately and unconditionally, open immediately to Goma airport, reopen the main distribution channels, humanitarian assistance, organizing Goma's security plan and its environment, and guidelines of additional support measures, ” It said the statement.

The ongoing diplomatic efforts will continue for a joint ministers meeting expected to take place on February 28, where the final terms of ceasefire are expected to be identified.
While concerns continue to be high in the eastern DRC, the summit has called on all armed groups, including the M23, to stop the fighting and to obey an agreement to cease the fighting.
“Based on the above-mentioned progress, all parties are encouraged to consider the ceasefire announced by the EAC-SADC summit, and the M23 and all other parties are asked to halt further development in the eastern DRC and to observe and obey the immediate ceasefire,” Added the statement.
At the same time, the EAC-SADC community is still actively involved in bringing lasting peace and stability to the region.
William Ruto meets Tshisekedi Member with increasing conflicts
Meanwhile, on February 19, President Ruto welcomed a special delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo, led by MP and former Deputy Prime Minister Lambert Mende.

The delegation also included DRC President Félix Tshisekedi Sambu Mambu, Public Construction Minister Alexis Gisaro, and business minister Julien Paluku.
Their negotiations were aimed at resolving the growing conflict in the eastern DRC, based on an agreement reached during the joint meeting of the EAC and SADC chiefs and the AU's Peace and Security Council meeting.
