Raila Odinga promises to announce his political direction after losing the AUC

Mombasa: Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga He has met with President William Ruto at the Mombasa White House for a consultation following a failure in the race for the Chairman of the African Union (AUC).

Speaking at the event on Monday, February 24, Raila expressed his gratitude to the President, his wife, and African presidents who supported him until the last minute.

The long -standing opposition leader acknowledged that his supporters were ready to support him to the end, stating that if Kenya decided to postpone the election, it would continue because it needed a two -thirds vote.

Has Raila Odinga's political journey to the end?

Despite the results, Raila assured his supporters that his political journey was not over.

“I'm going to consult in detail and at the right time, I will make a new direction. Stay tuned, I'll talk again,” Said Raila, suggesting the possibility of a major announcement in the future.

The ODM leader emphasized his commitment to the African continent and Kenya, saying: “I am ready to help the African continent, but most importantly, I am also for Kenya.”

He ignored his failure, insisting that whether he had won or failed, he still sees his efforts as success.

“You should not be worried at all. Raila explained.

Who won the AUC chair race?

Raila's trip to the AUC leadership came to an end in the sixth round of voting, in which he lost to Djibouti Foreign Minister Mahamoud Youssouf.

Finally, Raila withdrew from the race, accepting defeat.

Youssouf was elected chairman of the AUC by 33 votes in the seventh round.

In his victory speech, he expressed his gratitude to the presidents who supported him and asked for God's guidance to lead Africa towards radical reform.

In addition, the Djibouti government opposed the president's statement Ruto That Raila was the best candidate for Africa, saying that the continent had not lost a capable leader.

Will Raila's support make sure Ruto is re -elected?

After Raila's defeat, some ODM MPs praised President Ruto and signaled the possibility of supporting him in the 2027 elections.

However, the Secretary -General of the ODM party stressed that Raila's support would not guarantee Ruto's victory, even if he decided to support him.

His statement came after some ODM supporters changed their political position, especially after senior party officials joined the coalition government.
