His mother has asked his former representative Golazo to compensate for the athlete.
What was done with Kelvin Kiptum's money?
Kelvin Kiptum participated in three marathons in his profession before dying in a car accident with his coach Gervais Hakizimana last year.
The Kenyan was expected to be the first athlete to run for less than two hours in formal competitions, but his life was suddenly interrupted.
Since his death, questions have arisen about his money and compensation from the government and his agent, Golazo.
His world record he set in the Chicago Marathon in 2023 brought him millions of dollars, but reports say the money was banned.
His father, Samson Cheruiyot, accused Mark Corstjens of Golazo for blocking the money of his late son.
Elder Cheruiyot described the difficult financial situation they have been through since Kiptum's death, claiming that Kiptum's wife, Asenath Rotich, is receiving support from Golazo.
“I burned charcoal to make sure he had everything he needed, and his mother bought second -hand shoes for him,” Cheruiyot told the BBC after Kiptum's death.
“There was a day when we slept on the floor as we traveled to the country's competition so we could move on.”
What does Kiptum's mother say about compensation?
Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, her mother Mary Kangongo asked Golazo to compensate because they had not received any answers about her son's money.
“I want Golazo to pay me for taking care of my son. If they don't want to answer, then they must pay me,” Said Kangongo.
