Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic identifies key concern ahead of Mashemeji derby against AFC Leopards xxxxx

Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic has identified key areas for improvement following their FKF Cupouting against KSG Ogopa ahead of Mashemeji derby against AFC Leopards on Sunday.

Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has pinpointed a crucial area that needs improvement before the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards on March 2 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

This concern arose despite the team’s commanding 3-0 victory over KSG Ogopa in the FKF Cup preliminary round on Sunday at Dandora Stadium.

The FKF Premier League champions secured a routine win against the National Division Two side, courtesy of goals from Samuel Onyango, Boniface Omondi, and Austin Odhiambo.

However, the Croatian tactician highlighted a specific weakness in their game that needs to be addressed ahead of the critical derby encounter.

Three athletes have risen to the challenge, breaking Usain Bolt’s records and signaling a new era of speed in track and field.

Speaking after the match, Mihic acknowledged his satisfaction with the team’s performance but emphasized the need to be more clinical in front of goal.

“We enjoyed today. We insisted on some things in training—lots of passes, creativity, and remaining calm—and we did a good job,” Mihic said in his post-match conference.

“We are satisfied with what we saw. Just maybe finishing, yes, because we really created a lot of chances today, but we didn’t score as much as we created. That’s the only small minus,” he added.

Mihic noted that while the team displayed impressive creativity and ball movement, a tougher challenge awaits them on Sunday.

“Of course, we are waiting for a harder opponent, especially in Sunday’s game. This was a good preparation, not high intensity, but in terms of creativity and overall possession, it was nice. Yes, I’m happy,” he remarked.

With the clash against KSG Ogopa marking Gor Mahia’s third game in seven days, Mihic underscored the importance of managing player energy levels to ensure optimal performance.

“For every other game, we need to be clever about managing energy. We will give some players rest and start preparing our strategy for Leopards. We are happy because we played this game with courage and ambition, and I believe we will win the next one,” he asserted.

The coach also used the match as an opportunity to rotate his squad, giving playing time to those who had not featured prominently under his tenure.

South African legend Benni McCarthy has been heavily linked with the Harambee Stars job and here is everything you need to know about the former Bafana Bafana striker.

“Today, I gave a chance to players who have missed minutes. They deserve it because they are part of the team. Some of them played for the first time, and I saw good things. I am very happy and satisfied with some players who had not played during my time here. They showed me they can fight for a place in the first eleven,” Mihic noted.

Gor Mahia remains locked in a fierce FKF Premier League title race with leaders Kenya Police, who sit atop the table with 41 points, and second-placed Tusker with 39 points.

K’Ogalo, currently third with 36 points, missed an opportunity to close the gap last week when they were held to a goalless draw by Bidco United, failing to capitalize on Kenya Police’s 1-0 loss to Mathare United.

With the Mashemeji Derby being Mihic’s fourth game in charge, the clash holds immense significance for Gor Mahia’s title defense.
