President Yoweri Museveni’s son, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has clashed with Kizza Besigye’s wife, Winnie Byanyima, for claiming she had a relationship with his father.
In a radio interview on Saturday, February 22, 2025, Byanyima said her relationship with Museveni, several years ago, was a normal one, but Muhoozi, in a post on X on Sunday, February 23, 2025, said it was not normal.
“There was nothing normal about your relationship with my father. You found a happy home and tried to wreck it. You’re a disaster of a woman!! You didn’t leave. Mzee kicked you out of the house in December of 1986, dragged you to the car while you were crying, and sent you to your parents,” Muhoozi, known for his controversial posts on social media, said.
Byanyima, who is very active as far as Ugandan politics is concerned, said she left the relationship because of challenges.
“It was a normal relationship with President Museveni. It had some challenges, and I left it, but it is not relevant to the political discussion,” she said in the interview.

Besigye lauded
Byanyima also praised Besigye, who has been under trial in the court martial for his political activities.
“Kizza Besigye represents the most credible opposition against President Museveni, which makes him a target.
“This way of dealing with the opposition is not new. They call it a pretext operation. I believe Dr. Kizza Besigye represents the most credible opposition against President Museveni, which makes him a target.
“Dr. Kizza Besigye has been the most consistent critical voice over the last 25 years. He is trusted and has proven that he stands for something and won’t depart from it,” she said during the interview.
Take on Museveni
She criticised President Museveni as a man who lacks empathy and said the Ugandan Head of State could be grooming his son to take over once he exits power.
“I think President Museveni lacks empathy generally. He is obsessed with power and doesn’t take kindly to anyone who wants to challenge him.
“General Museveni is old. He is over 80 years old. He seems to be getting slower and slower and thinking about what will happen after him. It also seems he is trying to make way for his son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” she said.
