In 2024, Bednarek qualified for the Olympic team by placing second at the Olympic trials in the 100m and 200m. Noah Lyles won both races. In the 200m, both Lyles and Bednarek went under Michael Johnson’s 1996 meet record of 19.66. Lyles edged Bednarek, running 19.53 to Bednarek’s 19.59, a personal record.

While Bednarek had made the last 3 World Championship or Olympic teams in the 200m, this was the first time he had made a 100m global team. Bednarek also ran a personal best of 9.87 in the 100m final. At the Paris Olympics, Bednarek qualified for the 100m final, where he placed 7th in a time of 9.88

Now at his prime, the world is yet to see his best if his silver at the Olympics is anything to go by. With the World Championships the main highlight this year, could it be Kenny Bednarek’s time to shine and get off the shadows of Noah Lyles?.
