Agnes Ngetich claimed victory in the Sirikwa Classic 10km race as Faith Kipyegon withdrew, battling tough conditions in a highly competitive field.
Agnes Ngetich stole the show in the senior women’s 10km race at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-Country Championships as Faith Kipyegon failed to finish the race.
Competing on a hot Saturday afternoon at the Lobo Village in Eldoret, fans were waiting to see the clash between the 10km world record holder and the 1500m world record holder.
However, the conditions seemed too tough for Faith Kipyegon who was returning to her first Cross Country race after about two years of no action on the tough surface.
Usain Bolt’s girlfriend, Kasi Bennett, is a Jamaican entrepreneur and social media influencer, known for her long-term relationship with the sprint legend and their journey as a family.
Kipyegon looked comfortable running in second place behind Agnes Ngetich but after covering the better part of the race, she was forced to withdraw, easing the pressure on Ngetich who revealed that she was unaware about Faith Kipyegon’s withdrawal.
Agnes Ngetich went on to cross the finish line first in 32:42 minutes ahead of Janeth Chepngetich and Miriam Chebet who came in distant second and third in respective times of 33:52 and 34:09 minutes.
Speaking after the race, Agnes Ngetich admitted that the race was not a walk in the park as she had to endure a lot of struggles before eventually being crowned champion.

Three athletes have risen to the challenge, breaking Usain Bolt’s records and signaling a new era of speed in track and field.
“The race was very competitive because we had elite athletes in the line-up and the weather was also unfavorable. I thank God for enabling me to win the race because I was not even expecting that,” she admitted.
Agnes Ngetich revealed that the cross-country race is a great build-up for her as she gears up for the long track season where she has eyes on the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, especially after missing the Paris Olympic Games due to an injury.
She is unsure about her focus in the 5000m and 10,000m this season and noted that it will solely depend on how her body feels ahead of the national trials.
