Gor Mahia lining up sensational return for proven goalscoring machine

Gor Mahia are exporing the opportunity of resigning the Harambee Stars forward but face competition from two other clubs.

Football Kenya Federation Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia are burning their midnight oil to acquire the services of their former hitman Benson Omalla before the mid-season transfer window closes.

However, the record champions face fierce competition from title-chasing Tusker and Gusii side Shabana, who are rumoured to be the front runners for Omalla’s signature.

Pulse Sports understands that Omalla prefers a return to K’Ogalo after enjoying success with the green army between 2022-2024, scoring 45 goals in 54 appearances, to underline his ruthless nature infront of the goal.

AFC Leopards vs Gor Mahia fixture originally scheduled for November 24, 2024 was postponed.

Gor Mahia is an attractive move for the 23-year-old who also hopes to relaunch his Harambee Stars career. Omalla has been with Lebanese side Safa SC.

“Gor Mahia and Shabana are strongly interested in signing Benson Omalla. Tusker FC also inquired as Omalla is willing to rejoin FKF Premier League and hopes to be picked for CHAN later on. Omalla hopes he can relaunch his career with CHAN in August,” an X post stated.

Djed Spence: Why Kenya's Harambee Stars risk losing out on Tottenham star

Djed Spence’s recent performances could fast track his feature for the England national team as Harambee Stars miss out.

Omalla was the 2023-24 season too scorer after finding the back of the net 19 times. The season before, Omalla, who has featured for Kenya U20 and U23 sides, was the runner up top scorer.

Gor Mahia have had a mixed season so far despite sitting third with 35 points in the 18-team league and their blunt attack need to be addressed if the team hopes to stand a chance of successfully defending their title.

Second-placed Tusker on the other hand, want the striker to shoulder the goal scoring burden with current league top scorer Ryan Ogam, as the brewers hope to win the title they last won in the 2021-22 season under the stewardship of seasoned coach Robert Matano.

Shabana wants Omalla to boost their top four chances as the league phase enters homestretch.
