Speaking during a parliamentary session on Tuesday, February 18, Gogo recognized the efforts of Ruto Standing with Odinga, despite their political violence and different ethnic foundations.

What did MP Lilian Gogo tell Ruto about the AUC's intention?

He said that Ruto showed solidarity confirming that he valued the national leadership against the divisions of political parties.

“William, thank you very much. We saw what you did for us – someone whom Kenya respects the most, someone who is very dedicated to this country, and someone who has never been ethnic,” Gogo said.

The MP assured Ruto that, as he supported Raila in his AUC intention, they would not hesitate when needed.

“And with all I care, William, whenever you call us, I tell you, whenever you call us, we'll be there,” he said.

Gogo also praised the humility and leadership of the President during the AUC election process.

He noted that Ruto's decision to use one car with Raila in Addis Ababa as a symbol of unity, focusing on how the two leaders stood together.

He also congratulated Ruto for personal accompanying Odinga to Addis Ababa for the election and for maintaining humility even after Raila failed.

“William, we saw you. How you were there, and how Kenyans were mourning, how we were mourning, and how both of you addressed us in the evening in Addis-it was a compliment,” he said.

The MP called on the President to continue to promote national unity while urging him to unite all regions in his leadership.

“And I want to tell you, just connect Kenyans. William, please put Kenyans together. That's the only direction we want,” he said.

Who is the new chair of AUC 2025?

On Saturday, February 15, the election of the Chairman of the African Union (AUC) was concluded at the 38th meeting of the AU chiefs in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf emerged the winner after seven rounds of fierce competition.

Youssouf got 33 votes, and passed two -thirds of the majority of the votes needed among the 48 members who participated, and defeated Kenyan candidate Raila Odinga, who was at the forefront of the entire campaign.

The election process, which had secret ballots, saw Odinga lead by 20 votes in the first round, but his support diminished as the rounds were underway, and eventually ended with 21 votes in the final count.
