“The money you contribute is not supposed to give you a home. It helps us build a house. But after that, you are the one who pays the house. We do not build and give you a free home, ”the Wahome explained.

He emphasized that the plan operates through a house, meaning that Kenyans will pay monthly payments until they fully own the units.

The government's role in a cheap housing project

The Minister of Home reiterated that the government does not benefit from a cheap housing project but is working to subsidize the cost of housing to ensure Kenyans get better housing.

“The government does not make money from the project. We create opportunities for Kenyans to find cheap housing by facilitating the construction process, ”he added.

The minister also announced a major step in the project, exposing plans to provide nearly 5,000 houses by the end of March 2025 with additional thousands in the coming months.

“I will be delivering 4,888 units at the end of March. Every quarter, I will be offering between 4,000 and 5,000 units,” the Home revealed.

He also raised awareness of construction time, saying that most projects take between 12 and 18 months completed, while large projects can take up to three years.
