Details of UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang’s visit to Kenya
The President of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Philemon Yang, is currently on an official visit to Kenya from February 18 to 22, 2025.
His visit aims to strengthen global diplomatic ties, enhance Kenya’s relationship with the United Nations, and reinforce its role in international affairs.
In a statement from the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, President Yang, during his stay is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with President William Ruto, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other senior government officials to discuss cooperation in areas such as peace and security, sustainable development, digitalization as well as strengthening international cooperation
“During his visit, His Excellency the President of the General Assembly will hold high-level bilateral meetings with His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya, as well as with the Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, E.G.H. The discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation between Kenya and the United Nations, reinforcing Kenya’s pivotal role in multilateral diplomacy, and advancing key global and regional priorities,” the statement from the Office of Prime CS reads in part.
In addition to diplomatic engagements, the general assembly president will deliver a public lecture at Strathmore University, and hold a meeting with members of the UN community, interact with stakeholders from academic, policy, innovation, and private sectors.
During his five-day visit, Yang is also expected to visit Nairobi’s green spaces and wildlife conservation areas, underscoring the importance of environmental sustainability.

Apart from engagements and public lectures, Yang will present his vision and priorities for his tenure, focusing on peace and security, sustainable development, financing for development, digitalization, and strengthening international cooperation
“The President of the General Assembly will deliver a public lecture, meeting with members of the United Nations Community, and interact with members of the academia, policy think tanks, innovators and stakeholders from the private sector. He will also make a visit to green spaces and wildlife conservation areas in Nairobi.
“Yang will outline his vision and priorities during his tenure, particularly in the areas of peace and security, sustainable development, financing for development, digitalization and strengthening international cooperation,” the statement from the Office of Prime CS reads in part.
According to Mudavadi, the President of the General Assembly visit is expected to reinforce Kenya’s pivotal role in multilateral diplomacy and advance key global and regional priorities in collaboration with the United Nations.
Yang’s visit to Kenya reflects his commitment to engaging with member states to address global challenges collaboratively.
