County gears up efforts to boost health services – Kenya News Agency

Vihiga County has started to construct a health centre at the Emmukunzi area in the Central Bunyore ward, Emuhaya sub-county.

Speaking while laying a foundation block of the project area, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo said the facility would serve over 5,000 residents in the area and its environs, a move that seeks to improve access to health services at the grassroots.

Dr. Ottichilo stated that health remains a priority sector for his administration and that he would continue to channel substantial investment in infrastructural and   human capital development to ensure quality services to the people.

He added that the health facility is intended to offer outpatient, immunisation, and laboratory services as well as maternal and child care services.

The County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for health services Julius Maruja encouraged the residents to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) so that they are able to be served at accredited hospitals in the county.

He observed that although the SHA system is experiencing some hitches, the same are being sorted out along the way and soon it will function optimally.

The CECM noted that enrolment with SHA is the only surest way of guaranteeing health care for individuals, households and the society at large.
