Hunter & Tara-Davis Woodhall in tears after landmark decision from USA Track & Field

Paralympics champion Hunter Woodhall was left in tears while his wife Tara Davis-Woodhall was over the moon after USA Track and Field made a major announcement.

Paralympics champion Hunter Woodhall was left in tears upon learning that he will compete with his wife Tara Davis-Woodhall at the same event for the first time since their college days.

This follows a landmark decision by the USA Track and Field to hold both the Para and able bodied national championships together.

The 2025 USATF Para National Championships will take place at the Hayward Field at the University of Oregon from July 31-August 2, 2025.

The event will be the first time in US Para track and field history that the meet will be combined with the USATF Outdoor Championships after the Paralympic track and field program transitioned to USATF in January.

National championships will be the first major Para track and field event that USATF hosts as the official national governing body for the sport. The three-day competition will also serve as the team selection event for the 2025 Para Athletics World Championships, set for Delhi, India, in September.

It means Hunter, the Paralympics champion in 400m T62, will compete at the same event with Tara, the Olympics long jump champion, for the first time since they did the same while in college in 2019.

“For the first time in history. US Paralympic Trials and Able Body champs will be under the same roof. We haven’t competed at the same championship since 2019 in college. Unbelievably grateful, see you all in Eugene. Time to make history,” the couple jointly posted on Instagram.

While Tara was thrilled when the two received the news, Hunter was overcome by emotions with tears running down his cheeks as he struggled to process the information.

The two have supported each other down the years but during trials for major championships, they have had to travel to different venues but now, they will be at the same place, thanks to the decision.
