Kenya Power urges customers to use alternative payment channels amid persistent Mpesa paybill delays
Kenya Power has once again urged its customers to seek alternative payment channels as its Mpesa Paybill number 888880 continues to experience delays, causing disruptions in the purchase of electricity tokens.
In a notice shared on social media on Saturday, February 15, 2025, the utility company acknowledged the ongoing issue and provided alternative means for customers to purchase tokens.
“We would like to inform our esteemed customers that we are still experiencing a delay in delivering tokens purchased through our Mpesa Paybill 888880,” Kenya Power stated.
“Our team is working to resolve the issue, and we will issue an update once this is concluded.”
Alternative payment options
To mitigate the impact of the Paybill failure, Kenya Power has outlined several alternative channels through which customers can purchase electricity tokens.
These include:

2. Equity Bank (Kenya) Ltd.: Available through USSD *247#, Equitel, Equity Mobile App/Online, Eva Chatbot, or EazzyBiz.
3. Family Bank Ltd.: Tokens can be bought via the PesaPap Mobile App, USSD *325#, or the Family Bank Website.
4. KCB Bank Kenya Ltd.: Customers can use the KCB Mobile Banking App, KCB iBank App, Vooma Mobile App, USSD *522#, or *844#.

6. NCBA Bank: Customers can purchase tokens via the NCBA NOW App, USSD *488#, or NCBA Connect Online Banking.

This latest advisory follows a similar notice issued by Kenya Power on Friday, February 14, 2025, acknowledging system delays and assuring customers that efforts were underway to fix the problem.
However, by Saturday, the issue had not yet been resolved, prompting the company to reiterate the need for alternative payment options.
The persistent delays in the Mpesa Paybill service have led to growing frustration among customers, many of whom rely on prepaid electricity tokens to power their homes and businesses. Complaints have surfaced on social media, with customers expressing concerns over the inconvenience caused by the outages.
Kenya Power has apologized for the disruption, urging customers to remain patient as its technical team works on resolving the issue. The company also encouraged customers to stay updated through its official communication channels, including its website and social media platforms.
