Police nab 8 individuals, recover 497 Kgs of bhang in Elementaita

Eight individuals have been arrested and 497 kilograms of bhang recovered following a security operation in Elementaita, Nakuru County.

In a statement posted on their X account on February 14, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the raid was conducted after officers received a tip from residents.

“A coordinated security operation conducted early this morning in Elementaita, Nakuru County, led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of 497 kilograms of suspected cannabis,” NPS said.

Acting on the tipoff, officers raided a homestead in the area and conducted an extensive search, uncovering 21 sacks filled with the illicit substance.

“Police Officers raided a homestead in the area, where they conducted an extensive search recovering 21 sacks of the illicit substance,” NPS added.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and are set to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.

Ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking

This latest raid comes amid intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics trafficking across the country.

Just days earlier, on February 12, 2025, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested two individuals in Kombani, Kwale County, in a similar operation.

“Two suspects of trafficking in narcotics have been arrested by Coast region anti-narcotics detectives, following an early morning raid at a homestead in Boa, Kombani area,” DCI said in a statement posted on their X account.

The suspects, identified as Kassim Omar Konerwa, 34, and Issa Omar Konerwa, 24, were found in possession of 12 sacks of marijuana, believed to have been stored for distribution.

“The two were arrested with 12 sacks of marijuana, believed to have been stored at the homestead pending distribution,” DCI added.

Both individuals remain in custody, awaiting their arraignment in court.
