Beatrice Chebet confirms highly-awaited season opener as she chases more history in 2025

Beatrice Chebet is embracing a fresh season with new strategies as she gears up for her track opener and pursues her first World Championships gold in Tokyo.

Double Olympic champion (5000m and 10,000) Beatrice Chebet has revealed where she intends to open her 2025 season as she eyes the ultimate event, the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Chebet had undeniably the best 2024 season marked by world records, fast times, and gold medals. She opened her season with a cross-country win at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia where she successfully defended her title.

Beatrice Chebet then proceeded to break the 10,000m world record at the Prefontaine Classic before making history at the Paris Olympic Games where she claimed gold medals in the 5000m and 10,000m.

The 35-year-old is currently training in Kenya after returning from the US and has revealed one of the main reasons for her decision to come back home.

Chebet clocked the fastest time of the season in the 5000m at the Diamond League Meeting in Zurich before rounding up her track season with a trophy at the Diamond League Meeting final in Brussels.

The Kenyan distance sensation competed at the XLII Cross Internacional de Itálica and then set a world record on New Year’s Eve competing in the 5km road race at the Cursa dels Nassos.

She hopes to continue with her winning ways this season as she eyes her season opener in Xiamen, this time around, having reduced the number of cross-country races she competes. Beatrice Chebet has already started training towards the long season.

“My 2024 season was great and I can’t complain, all glory remains to God. The 2025 season has started great, as you know, I broke the 5km world record and competed in a cross country in Europe,” Beatrice Chebet revealed during the Sirikwa Classic Cross-Country launch on Wednesday

“At the moment, I’m preparing for track and I will start my season with the Diamond League Meeting in Xiamen and the main goal will be at the World Championships in Tokyo.

“I don’t have a gold medal from the World Championships and that’s one thing I want to achieve. So far, I’m yet to decide whether I will double in the 5000m and 10,000m but the trials will determine.”

How Noah Lyles took away the title of 'sprint king' from legendary Usain Bolt

How has Noah Lyles evolved into the best sprinters, taking over the mantle from Usain Bolt?

She will be targeting her first gold medal at the World Championships after settling for silver and bronze in the 5000m in Eugene in 2022 and Budapest in 2023 respectively.

Having won the Olympic gold medals and beating Faith Kipyegon in the 5000m, Beatrice Chebet has the much-needed confidence to make a difference this season.

She hopes to deny Faith Kipyegon, the defending champion in the 5000m, a chance to win her second successive title. She is unsure about competing in both the 5000m and 10,000m as she awaits the national trials.
