Gospel singer Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone Apoko, has come out to playfully hit back at TikTokers who have been mocking Brian Chira’s grandmother ever since she pleaded for help to relocate to a new house, saying he is more than ready to host her.

Taking to his Instagram page on Wednesday, February 12, 2024, Apoko noted that he had caught wind of the grandmother’s desire to move and that if her concerns were genuine, she should come over—because he would gladly host her in the main house of his lavish Runda mansion.

Apoko shared a video of himself addressing the granny while striking a pose in front of his opulent residence, with his sleek Mercedes-Benz parked nearby as if to set the tone for what he was offering.

He lightheartedly told her that he loves her and is more than willing to help her settle into a flashier home, adding that he wouldn’t mind downgrading to the servants’ quarters if she took over his main house.

“Shosho, hawa vijana wa TikTok si wazuri. Wanakuchezea sana. Kama mahali ile nyumba ulijengewa, unasikia si pazuri, nakukaribisha ucome uishi na mimi hapa Runda. Nitakupatia main house na mimi nitahamia servants’ quarter,” he quipped.

Plea for new house

The Tenda Wema hitmaker was responding to a recent plea from Chira’s grandmother, who expressed her wish to be relocated, citing insecurity in her current neighborhood and the lack of direct access to the main highway.

The granny had made her appeal during a live session with TikToker Obidan Dela, who frequently visits her, where she also revealed that her grandchild was struggling to get to school because the nearest bus stop on the main highway was too far.

That was when she voiced her frustrations, saying she was uneasy in the house and that her heart had completely rejected it due to the high levels of insecurity in the area.

“Unaona Chira ameteremka miguu. Walimkujia asubuhi ikateleza ikakaa ikateleza sana, lakini jioni vile kulikuwa kunanyesha wakamuekea huko kwa njia mbali, akashuka miguu,” she lamented.

The grandmother then went on to inform TikTokers that she had taken an interest in container houses, saying she had been reviewing them and found that, if built properly, they were well-designed and incredibly comfortable to live in.

“Unajua mimi nilikuwa naona si hata kuna container zinajengwa vizuri. Si kunazo? Inakaa kama nyumba kabisa. Hiyo ni mzuri. Hii area hii mi Obidan sitaki. Roho yangu inakataa kabisa. Na unaona vile hii nyumba iko very smart,” she remarked.

TikTokers React

Since that live session, the granny has become a hot topic on TikTok, with many questioning why she seemed ungrateful, while others suggested that there were better solutions to insecurity than demanding a brand-new house.

One of those who openly criticized her was her former aide, Baba Talisha, who slammed her for what he described as outright ingratitude towards the TikTok community that had come through for her.

Taking to his Instagram on Tuesday, February 12, 2025, Baba Talisha did not hold back his disappointment over the elderly woman’s latest demands. He wondered why she seemed oblivious to the overwhelming generosity she had received from the online community, particularly on TikTok.

“I feel so ashamed seeing someone who has been helped by the online family, especially on TikTok, being so ungrateful. Ksh8.4 million was collected. Remained with Ksh7.4 million less than one year down, nothing. No one in the history of fundraising has been helped like her. It was just not enough for her,” Baba Talisha expressed.
