The family reinstated MP Peter Nabulindo KSh 15,000, increasing KSh 200 withdrawal fees, and also returning KSh 50,000 from former sports minister Rashid Echesa.
Their decision was based on what they referred to as a political intervention at the funeral.
“He cannot bring this and disturb the funeral of our father, a very peaceful person. And everything you gave – learn the lesson here,” the daughter of the deceased said.
“I am still hurt by everything that has happened – from the time we took care of our father to his death – only for a man to use our pain and turn his funeral into a political benefit platform. Just remember Galatians 6: 7: You will reap what you have sow. For you.
Who sparked a mess at the funeral of the Kakamega Chief?
The funeral service was hit by chaos after supporters of Echesa, Nabulindo and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa clashed as they competed for each other.
The violence forced the family of his wife to stop the funeral service.
MCA Of Mayoni County, Frederick Wititwa, police, and several youths were injured in the violence, which the priests failed to calm.
Governor Barasa criticized the turmoil, referring to the late Chief as a peaceful and respected member who deserved to be sent respectfully.
“I condemn the violence that took place today in Matungu at the funeral of Elder Agostino Odongo. As chief chief and director of Moco deserved to be sent with respect, not the chaos caused by Rashid Echesa,” Barasa said.
He called for accountability and called on the authorities to take action against those responsible for the violence.
However, Echesa also responded by accusing Barasa of disrupting the peaceful ritual after arriving with riot youths for terrorizing his opponents.
“It was not a gentleman, civilization and culture for Governor Fernandes Barasa to invade the funeral caravan of the late Augostino Odongo with corrupt and disrespectful youth in the name of threatening leaders who do not follow his leadership. Governor Barasa and his friends.
Family disgusted after politicians disturbed their father's funeral
Patrick Luttah, the son of the deceased, revealed that he warned Echesa personally against causing violence at the funeral.
“I contacted him and asked him not to bring a mess, but he went on to arrange the rioters who arrived at the burning and ready to cause a mess,” he said.
The family's brave position has sparked a debate on the growing conduct of politicians using funerals as a political battlefield.
“For politicians, this is a lesson. You cannot come and distract the burial, then expect to manage the program. We bring you back to you – use them as you please. We don't want your gifts, ”they said.
