Citizen Digital reported that the four miners were overwhelmed to death in a gold mine abandoned on Monday, February 10.
How 4 miners died in Homa Bay County
Preliminary research shows miners entered the site without oxygen supporting equipment during an unauthorized mining expedition.
Kowidi area chief Lucas Juma said the five miners entered the area at 11am, which had been abandoned for three years without informing the owner.
However, only four of them entered the ditch, while the fifth person remained at the door.
According to the local administrator, the deceased joined the mine without any tool or an oxygen support device, relying on the rope alone to go down.
What Homa Bay's police commander said about the incident
A police report shows the fifth miner found the rope stopped moving, and four did not respond to his phones, thus forcing him to ring the alarm.

Commenting on the incident, Homa County Police Commander Bay Hassan Mail said the four miners died just minutes after entering the abandoned mine.

The Kakamega Senator concluded by demanding the Minister of Minerals and the Blue Economy Hassan Joho interfering with handling issues in the Shinyalu gold mine.
Khalwale's statement comes a few hours after the Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi expressing his sadness to families affected by the Gold Mine tragedy.
