Elite golfers for the Absa Magical Kenya Open have been named with a significant financial boost.
The 56th edition of the prestigious Magical Kenya Open has received a significant financial boost, with Absa Bank injecting Kshs 60 million to ensure the event’s success.
The sponsorship was officially announced during the tee-off ceremony on Tuesday, February 10, at the Muthaiga Golf Club.
The event was graced by Absa Bank CEO Abdi Mohammed, State Department of Sports Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Tum, and other officials from Absa and the Magical Kenya Open.
Set to take place from February 20 to 23 at the picturesque Muthaiga Golf Course, this year’s tournament is expected to attract 144 elite golfers from around the world.
After his unceremonious exit from the Magical Kenya Open, golfer Dismas Indiza feels the sport in on a downward spiral and has shared tips on how Kenya can improve.
Among them are eight professional and two amateur golfers representing Kenya, who will be vying for a share of the impressive Kshs 322.5 million (USD 2.5 million) prize purse.
Notable Kenyan professionals in the competition include Njoroge Kibugu, Greg Snow, David Wakhu, Samuel Njoroge, Dismas Indiza, Mohit Mediratta, Riz Charania, and Edwin Mudanyi.
They will be joined by other elite golfers including past European tour winners dutch golfer Darius Van Driel and Spanish golfer Jorge Campillo among others.
During the sponsorship announcement, Absa CEO Abdi Mohammed reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to nurturing sports and solidifying Kenya’s position as a premier golf destination.

Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Eng. Peter Tum, also reiterated the government’s unwavering support for the event and the broader sports sector in Kenya.
“As a government, we remain committed to creating an enabling environment for sports organisations to thrive in our country. Our commitment is driven by the fact that sports not only bring us together as a nation but also enable our youth to pursue their sporting talent,” he stated.
“It is for this reason that the government has once again agreed to invest heavily financially in making sure that Kenya hosts the Magical Kenya Open 2025.”
Beyond its involvement in golf, Absa continues to make significant contributions to other sporting events, including the Absa Kip Keino Classic and the Sirikwa Classic Championship.
These efforts underscore the bank’s broader commitment to supporting sports development and uplifting Kenyan athletes on the global stage.
