Abel Kipsang has acknowledged his struggles in 2024 but is determined to make a strong comeback in 2025 with a new training approach.
Former world indoor bronze medallist Abel Kipsang has reflected on his turbulent 2024 season as he takes a different approach for 2025 hoping to make up for all the losses he endured.
The African Games 1500m bronze medallist failed to make an impact at the Kenyan Olympic trials, finishing distant seventh in the final of the 1500m to miss out on the team to Paris, France.
That being the main event of the season, Abel Kipsang admitted to having been hurt after missing out on the golden chance. After the setback, he only competed at the Urban Trail de Lille where he finished sixth and rounded up his season.
Starting his 2025 season, Abel Kipsang revealed his decision to compete in several cross-country races before starting the track season, believing that it would be beneficial to his chances of making the cut to the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
“I’m using this cross country as part of my build up…in the 2024 season, I faced some struggles. I decided to begin my 2025 season with the cross country for my build-up so that this season can be better,” he shared in an interview with CGTN Africa.
“When the track and field season starts, I want to work hard and qualify for the World Championships, I have so much hope about making the team.”
The Kenyan hopes to shake off competition from the likes of Timothy and Reynold Cheruiyot and make the team once again and hopefully proceed to claim a medal in Tokyo.
Abel Kipsang was in action at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon where he finished distant seventh in the 1500m final. He also competed at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
He now hopes to go one place better in Tokyo and having changed his training approach, Abel Kipsang has confidence that things will work in his favour.
