‘That boy got a lot of dawg in him’- Trinidadian sprint legend stands by Fred Kerley’s medal hopes for Tokyo and LA 2028

The retired Trinidadian sprinter reaffirmed that despite personal and legal setbacks, Fred Kerley’s relentless drive keeps him in medal contention for Tokyo and LA 2028.

Former world 200m champion Ato Boldon has explained the reasons behind his decision not to rule out Fred Kerley from medalling at the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan and the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

The four-time Olympic medallist revealed that Fred Kerley might have personal issues but when it comes to showing up on the track, he knows how to do it.

The retired Trinidadian sprinter further noted that no one was sure about Fred Kerley’s chances of making the US team to the Paris Olympic Games but he proved everyone wrong by making the team and winning a bronze medal in the men’s 100m final.

He pointed out that people have tendencies to rule out Fred Kerley when it comes to competitions but he always proves to be one of the best every time, hence his decision to maintain that the American will bounce back.

“Let me tell you why you can’t count Fred out because I don’t think that there are a lot of people that would have said Fred was going to medal in Paris,” Ato Boldon said on his Instagram live session.

“I wasn’t sure he was going to make the team but Fred would find a way, that boy got a lot of dawg in him, think of Quincy Hall.

'I was looking forward to getting back'- Julien Alfred makes surprising revelation despite memorable off season

Despite having an amazing holiday, Julien Alfred was eager to move on and return to her routine, embracing the next phase of her journey.

“What team has Fred not made of late? In 2023, he made that team, in 2024 he did too and in 2022 he was the world champion and in 2021 he was the highest finisher of the US.”

Ato Boldon further insisted that Fred Kerley might be getting older and dealing with issues in his life might slow him down but he will surely bounce back.

The former Commonwealth Games champion also wished the former world champion the best of luck as he settles his issues off the track.

“I’m not betting against Fred now, he’s getting older, and he’s got drama in his life but I’m not ready to bet against Fred, not with a home Olympics,” he added.

Meanwhile, Fred Kerley has been off to a tumultuous start to his season following an altercation he had with the police in Miami, Florida.

He was arrested and stun-gunned and charged with battery, resisting officers and disorderly conduct. Fred Kerley was also set to appear in court following different charges of robbery and domestic battery as alleged by his wife.
