Josh Kerr has insisted that Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s 1500m loss at the Paris Olympics remains his defining, marquee moment, overshadowing even his 5000m win.
Josh Kerr has once again aimed a dig at Jakob Ingebrigtsen, going down memory lane on his loss in the 1500m at the Paris Olympic Games and overlooking his 5000m win.
At the Olympics, Ingebrigtsen was hoping to defend his title but faded to a fourth-place finish in the final as Cole Hocker claimed the win. Josh Kerr finished second in the race.
In the 5000m, Jakob Ingebrigtsen redeemed himself with a dominant win but Josh Kerr believes that doesn’t matter and the fact that he lost the 1500m is what was talked most about.
Gout Gout has overcome identity challenges and personal struggles to break records but who are the people behind his success?
He explained that it remains the reason why Jakob Ingebrigtsen will not leave the 1500m anytime soon, noting that it is the only event that gives him the platform to build a brand.
Josh Kerr even compared the 1500m to the 100m, revealing that the buzz that comes with the short sprint is also in his distance.
The reigning world 1500m champion further explained that Ingebrigtsen also has the 1500m talent and he would love to dominate for many years to come.
“He ran 3min 26sec last year. I think he also knows, at the current moment, no one cares about the five and 10km like they do the 1500m,” Josh Kerr said in an interview with the Telegraph.
“There’s not really the storylines. You want to be in the marquee event, I think he wants to be in the marquee event. He’s run fast at it, so I don’t see why he would change. But that’s his decision.”
Reflecting on his long 2024 season, Josh Kerr pointed out that there were tons of interviews he had to do and a lot of exchanges between himself and his serial rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Kerr revealed that it was a hectic but fruitful season since he also made a name for himself on and off the track.
“It’s definitely calmed down … we are both just being ourselves. When you are putting us in the same room, where you are getting asked questions about each other, there’s only a certain amount of questions that can get asked before you start throwing some…,” Josh Kerr further noted.
Both athletes have yet to start their 2025 seasons with Josh Kerr having been announced for the Millrose Games but had to withdraw last minute due to an illness.
