Gor Mahia overcame Mathare to hand Sinisa Mihic his first win as head coach.
Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has shared a critical assessment of his first match in charge, expressing dissatisfaction with his team’s performance despite securing a 2-1 victory over Mathare United in the FKF Premier League on Saturday at Dandora Stadium.
Mathare United took an early lead in the 16th minute when Elli Asieche capitalized on a lapse in Gor Mahia’s defense.
However, defender Alphonce Omija responded in the 35th minute, leveling the score and ensuring both teams entered the break on equal footing.
In the second half, Ghanaian midfielder Enock Morrison remained composed to convert a penalty in the 76th minute, ultimately securing all three points for K’Ogalo.
Despite the win, Mihic was critical of his team’s overall display, citing tactical lapses and missed chances as areas of concern.
“On that kind of pitch, where the ball is bouncing too much, it’s very difficult. You must play more vertical football, which we did after making some changes with fresh players,” Mihic said in his post-match interview with Azam TV.

Morrison has been on a good run of form for Gor Mahia in a more advanced role ever since Austine Odhiambo suffered an unfortunate injury.
“I am not satisfied with some small tactical things. In the first half, we invited them into our half and conceded a goal. We wanted to maintain ball possession, but we overcomplicated it,” noted Mihic.
“We needed to push up with a midfielder to relieve pressure, play more vertically, and connect better in support. We missed too many chances, which made us nervous,” he added.
Mihic acknowledged the importance of securing a win but emphasized the need for improvement.
“Now, I have seen my team in a real game. I know more than before. But once again, winning is always good. Three points are important. We need to be happy but also correct our mistakes,” he concluded.
The victory took Gor Mahia’s tally to 34 points, placing them behind joint league leaders Kenya Police and Tusker FC, both sitting at 38 points.
With the league entering decisive period, Mihic will be keen to address his team’s shortcomings and push for a stronger title challenge.
