The 2024 Milrose Games delivered a night of breathtaking performances, headlined by American Olympians Grant Fisher and Yared Nuguse, who both set new world records in their respective events.
Fisher, the 2024 Paris Olympic bronze medalist in the 5000m and 10000m, blazed to victory in the 3000m, setting a new world record of 7:22.91.
He eclipsed the previous mark of 7:23.81, set by Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma in 2023.
Grant Fisher is seen by long-distance great Joshua Cheptegei as his successor in the 5,000m and 10000m events and the American runner has commented on the succession talk.
The race was a thrilling duel between Fisher and 1500m Olympic champion Cole Hocker, with the two Americans pushing each other throughout.
Fisher surged past Hocker on the final turn to claim victory, while Hocker also dipped under Girma’s previous record, finishing in 7:23.14.

At the same event, Yared Nuguse also etched his name in the record books by winning the Wanamaker Mile in a world-record time of 3:46.63.
The 25-year-old shattered the previous record of 3:47.01, set by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha nearly six years ago.
Like Fisher, Nuguse needed a strong finishing kick to hold off fellow American Hobbs Kessler, who clocked 3:46.90—another time faster than Kejelcha’s former record.
