Brighton & Hove Albion’s Ksh 1.2 billion move for exciting Harambee Stars prospect hits major snag

He becomes the second Harambee Stars prospect to don Brighton colours after Jonah Ayunga, who came through the club’s academy.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s pursuit of Brøndby midfielder Clement Mutahi Bischoff has hit a dead end after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.

The Athletic previously reported that the Premier League side had lined up a deal worth around €8 million ($8.33m; £6.65m – Ksh 1.2 billion) to sign the 19-year-old this summer.

However, according to the same source, negotiations have now collapsed, leaving Bischoff’s future uncertain.A versatile left-sided player, the Denmark youth international has featured both as a left-back and in midfield.

Kasarani has been earmarked for AFCON 2027 while renovations works will ensure the stadium joins Nyayo for hosting the postponed 2024 CHAN matches.

This season, he has made 25 appearances across all competitions for Brøndby, scoring two goals and providing eight assists. He has also earned two caps for Denmark’s U21 side.

Bischoff is the nephew of former footballer Mikkel Bischoff, a centre-back who played for clubs such as Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield Wednesday, and Coventry City.

The failed transfer follows a busy winter window for Brighton, during which they secured Diego Gomez from Inter Miami, defender Eiran Cashin from Derby County, and Greek forward Stefanos Tzimas from Nürnberg, where he remains on loan.

Ex-Chelsea Kenyan winger returns to Leicester City

Otieno, who was named the Leicester City Development Player of the season last year, has returned to the club after suffering a worrying knee injury playing for Wigan last weekend.

If Bischoff opts to represent Kenya, he would become only the second Kenyan to play in the English Premier League after Victor Wanyama, who starred for Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Several other players with Kenyan roots also remain eligible for the Harambee Stars, including, Tyler Onyango of Everton who was  born in England but eligible through his father.

Silko Amari Otieno Thomas of Leicester City could also represent Kenya but ,has Jamaican heritage, as is Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur), another player with Kenyan roots.

While Brighton’s move has collapsed, Bischoff’s talent continues to attract attention, and he remains a player to watch in the coming months.
