Preacher and philanthropist Daniel Wanyonyi, popularly known as Apostle Dan Wema, has, through Kenyans’ contributions, bought land and built a house for a kind-hearted woman he met working in a sugarcane plantation.
In a post shared on his Facebook account on Sunday, January 9, 2025, the clergyman expressed that they had just completed securing a perimeter fence around her newly built residence and that the woman was overwhelmed with joy for the kindness Kenyans had extended to her.
Dan further stated that the only remaining task in the project was to apply plaster to the house, which they were allowing time to dry, and extended heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had contributed towards making the initiative a reality.
“Finally, all the glory be to God! Mama ako na shamba, iko fenced, nyumba amepata. Ikikauka tunaeka plaster... Thanks for support,” he declared.
Dan’s announcement followed days of mobilizing Kenyans through his Facebook account, passionately urging them to donate as he was deeply invested in transforming the woman’s life for the better, permanently.

He had earlier informed his followers that he had identified a plot of land valued at Ksh150,000 near her current residence, which he intended to purchase on her behalf.
He fervently appealed to Kenyans, even suggesting that they forego a meal for the day so they could collectively raise the amount before another buyer claimed the property.
“Guys, we have 100k now. Deficit 50k only. Aki twende tulipe hio plot leo kesho tujengee yeye nyumba. Tushapata plot. Tuma 100 bob, 200 bob, 500 bob kwa 0791863382. Daniel Wanyonyi. May God bless you with lands and big houses as you become a partaker of this. Let’s put a smile on her, God will bless you,” he urged.
Unlikely encounter
Wanyonyi came across the woman during one of his routine content creation sessions, where he engages strangers under the guise of being destitute, seeking assistance to gauge their generosity and kindness.
During this particular episode, he approached the woman while she was engaged in labour at a sugarcane farm and requested Ksh20, claiming he had not eaten due to his employer withholding his wages.
“Nimeona nikuje nikuombe msaada vile nimekuona nikiwa kwa njia ukiwa hapa kwa shamba ya miwa unapalilia. Naomba tu mum ukweli kama unaeza kuwa na shillingi ishirini unisaidie niende nikule ndizi. Niko na shida mum. Nimekuwa nafanyia mtu kazi hanipei pesa,” Dan implored.
The woman sympathized with him, revealing that she also had no money and had not eaten that day. She disclosed that she only had Ksh10, which she had intended to use to buy a small cake as her meal before heading home from work.
However, after a brief moment of reflection, the compassionate woman reconsidered and selflessly offered him the Ksh10, expressing her unwavering faith that God would provide for her in return.
“Sasa mimi nikikupea hii 10 nitakaa na nini? Lakini acha nikupee sababu Mungu atanifungulia njia. Wakitaka kunilipa itakuwa sawa,” she said.
Social experiment
Upon realizing that the woman had genuinely given away her last bit of money, Dan returned and revealed that the entire situation had been a social experiment. He explained that he was not genuinely in need but was conducting a test to assess people’s willingness to assist those in distress.
He then informed her that she had passed the test and assured her that she would receive a reward for her kindness.
Feeling more at ease, the woman confided in Dan about the immense hardships she was enduring, recounting how she had been viciously attacked with a machete by her husband, forcing her to flee their marriage.

She also revealed that she was struggling to raise her four children, who had been out of school for months due to financial difficulties, and that her rented house had remained locked for four months due to unpaid rent.
“Ninakaa kwa rentals na watoto. Nilienda kwa ndoa yangu, bwana yangu akanikatakata na panga nikatoka huko. Naishi na watoto wanne na shule hawaendi juu nafanya hii kibarua na nalipwa mia tatu kwa siku,” she lamented.
It was at this moment that Dan asked her to take him to her home, reassuring her that he would return with a life-changing surprise.
He told her that her long-awaited breakthrough had finally arrived, declaring that this was the day the Lord had made for her deliverance
