Former Gor Mahia winger Enock Wanyama was among the casualities as Gor Mahia released four players.
Former Gor Mahia winger Enock Wanyama has shared an emotional message after being axed from the club, following a recent squad overhaul.
The 2023/24 season signing was among the casualties in a significant reshuffle that saw four players released, including midfielder Musa Masika, Kevin Juma, and reserve goalkeeper Dolph Junior.
Taking to his Instagram, Wanyama expressed both pride and gratitude for his time at the Kenyan giants, reflecting on his journey with the team.
“Felt immensely proud each time I danced down the wing under the Mighty green shirt. Wished to have been seen and exposed more but that wasn’t the case, either way,” he wrote, acknowledging the challenges faced during his time at the club.
He continued, “I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunities and experiences I have gained during my stay with the Kenyan champions.”
“Working alongside such a talented and supportive team has been truly rewarding. I have learned and grown both personally and professionally, and I am grateful for the valuable skills and knowledge I have acquired.”
Wanyama also extended his best wishes to the club, writing, “I wish Gor Mahia Football Club continued success in all its future endeavors. I have no doubt that the team will thrive and achieve great things.”
The forward joined Gor Mahia in the 2023/24 season under former head coach Jonathan McKinstry.
Prior to his move, the forward had endured a challenging stint abroad with Leopard Cat in the Taiwan League, and his transfer to Gor Mahia was seen as a fresh start.

Harambe Stars captain Michael Olunga has matched his last season’s tally, helping Al Duhail maintain their stay at the top of Qatar Star League.
However, under new head coach Sinisa Mihic, who was appointed with the goal of steering the club’s title retention efforts, Wanyama has now been deemed surplus to requirements.
The release of Wanyama, along with other key players, signals a new chapter for the club as Mihic prepares for a fresh push towards another league title.
Despite his departure, Wanyama’s message reflects his deep appreciation for the club and its supporters, leaving the door open for future success both for himself and for Gor Mahia.
