Yohan Blake was born to mother Shirley and father Veda Blake shortly after Christmas Day in December 1986 and comes from a humble background.

Shirley and Veda started supporting their son when they learnt of his immense athletics talent after he won the CARIFTA Games 2007.

Blake also has Olympics silver in 100m and 200m, both won at London 2012, two World Relays titles (4x100m and 4x200m) from Bahamas 2014 as well as a World Junior title won in 2006 in 4x100m relay.

Blake became the youngest-ever 100m world champion when he stormed to gold in Daegu, South Korea in 2011 at 22 after Usain Bolt had been disqualified from the final over a false start.

He remains the second fastest man in history as his 9.69 seconds in 100m and 19.26 in 200m are only bettered by Usain Bolt’s world records of 9.58 and 19.19 respectively.

The sprinter trained under the legendary coach Glen Mills, who also honed Bolt’s career, and benefited a lot from that stint as he was the only man who could challenge the world record holder.

However, Blake, nicknamed the Beast, broke up with Mills in 2019 and would later accuse the coach of favouring Usain Bolt.

He then started working with Patrick Dawson at the Racers Track Club but would switch coaches again after a less than impressive 2019 World Championships, when he finished fifth in 100m and exited the 200m at the semi-final, opting to work with Gregory Little.

However, since then, Yohan Blake’s fortunes have dwindled as injuries and poor form hampered him with his last major event being the 2022 World Championships when he exited the 100m at the semi-final while he could not go past the heats in the 200m.
