Former world 200m champion Dina Asher-Smith ditched her long-time coach John Blackie for Edrick ‘Flo’ Floreal in 2023 and not at any point does she regret her decision.

The Briton sprint queen also relocated from the United Kingdom to the United States, specifically Austin, Texas and she is seemingly enjoying herself, especially training alongside Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred.

The Olympic silver medallist revealed that working with Julien Alfred is fun and she has gained a lot of skills to enable her to endure the long 2025 season.

Dina Asher-Smith has already opened her 2025 season in the 300m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix alongside Julien Alfred.

Asher-Smith was off to an impressive start but Julien Alfred caught up with her mid-way through the race with the Saint Lucian athlete enduring the tough distance to eventually win the race.

Alfred crossed the finish line in a time of 36.16, forcing Dina Asher-Smith to settle for second place in 36.87. Emma Montoya rounded up the podium in 38.37 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Dina Asher-Smith said: “It’s great fun, obviously to get faster you need to train against really talented and successful ladies so I’m really enjoying doing that.”

“I’m having fun running a 300m today, it’s definitely a little longer than we’re used to, yeah it was a good run.”

The sprint sensation now hopes to bring back to the 2019 spark that saw her claim top honours in the 200m at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

At the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, she failed to defend her title, finishing third in the 200m and fourth in the 100m.

In 2023, she finished seventh in the 200m at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and eighth in the 100m. She did not have a great outing at the Paris Olympic Games where she finished fourth in the 200m and did not make the final in the 100m.

Following the bold changes, Dina Asher-Smith hopes to bounce back to winning ways in Tokyo, Japan and has already started campaigning towards the same. Training with Julien Alfred will definitely play a role in her success this season.
