Bomet – Governor Hillary Barkok was arrested earlier today.
Why was Hillary Barkok arrested?
The Boment governor was arrested on Thursday, February 6 by investigating officials from the Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC).
The Nation reported that the Governor of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into the county's money laundering.
The EACC says a county boss under police protection is expected to record information at EACC South Rift Regional offices in Nakuru.
Barchok's arrest follows pressure from various parts, including local legislators, who have been shouting about acceptable corruption within the county administration.
In November 2024, a group of Bomet's parliamentarians called on the EACC to investigate Barchok on allegations of county money laundering.
At the time, the commission was investigating eight Bomet County officials on allegations of KSh1.5 billion.
The Anti -Corruption Agency was targeting CEC, senior officials, and senior county officials on allegations of fraudulent fraudulent payments to companies allegedly owned by unnamed county officials.
How the EACC won the case of KSh 30 million in Mombasa County
Other information, the Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) won a case where it wanted to be restored to a piece of land owned by fraud by a one -time state administrator.
Edward Mwangi, a former Mombasa District Officer, was charged in conjunction with an official at a state land office to own a piece of 0.0492 hectares near the Mombasa palace.
According to the EACC, the transfer of ownership of the piece was facilitated by Wilson Gachanja, who was then the Commissioner of Land.
After it was found, Mwangi sold the package to the Mombasa hotel; Minalove Hotel and Restaurant Limited.
The company would later use the land as a guarantee to obtain a loan from Equity Bank. In court papers, the former DO was charged with the Minalove Hotel, Gachanja and Equity Bank.
