‘Wildly crazy’ – Rai Benjamin slams President Donald Trump over sweeping changes of new US administration

The sprinter has weighed in on the changes being made by the US President who has ruffled feathers with his earth-shaking decisions in the last two weeks.

Olympics 400m hurdles champion Rai Benjamin seems to be among those who do not support the administration of US President Donald Trump.

Trump, who was sworn in as US President on January 20, has made sweeping changes in just two weeks that have been felt in the United States and the entire world.

Part of his first actions in office was to withdraw the US from the World Health Organization (WHO) and slash funding for USAID that has left thousands of employees on the brink of losing their jobs in various countries around the world.

In the US, he signed an executive order scrapping the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program, which gives some exemptions to some special groups in the US.

The DEI program was put in place through the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to check things like discrimination in employment based on race, religion, sex, color and origin.

Now, the Trump admiration has aimed at security agencies in the US with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) offering buyouts to its entire workforce on Tuesday to bring it in line with the President’s policies.

As per the Wall Street Journal, new CIA Director John Ratcliffe has made the directive aimed at a major makeover of the agency, staying true to Trump’s move to fire and sideline hundreds of civil servants in his first steps of downsizing government and installing loyalists.

However, all these have not gone down well with many in America and beyond and among those who do not agree with Trump’s way of doing things is Benjamin.

“This Administration is wiiiiiiilllllllddddddllyyy crazy,” Benjamin posted on X while expressing his surprise at the move on the CIA.

The Olympics champion then went on to suggest that Trump might be too old for the job, asking for an age limit on those running for President.

“While we’re at it, let’s lower the age to run for President. I think I got a shot,” he added.

Benjamin is among American athletes who have been vocal on various issues affecting the US as well as track and field, opting to speak truth to power rather than keeping quiet.

He is currently preparing for the 2025 track season which culminates with the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan in September where he will be aiming for his first title in 400m hurdles having won two silver and a bronze medal.
