Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian excites Noah Lyles with big promise for track and field

Alexis Ohanian, the brains behind the women’s-only Athlos event, has agreed with Noah Lyles over the state of track and field, making big promises that will excite the sprinter.

Olympics champion Noah Lyles has lamented over how track and field is being left behind by other sports given the reserved nature of the sport.

Lyles doubled down on his criticism of track and field following his win in the 60m at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston last weekend, explaining how the setup of the sport makes it hard for athletes to express themselves, and put on a show that would wow fans.

The sprinter has spoken of how he remains committed to changing the sport even if it will mean getting hated or being the lone voice as he believes keeping quiet is contributing to the poor state of track and field.

The American sprint star has hinted at skipping the indoor season while shifting focus to bigger goals in the 2025 World Championships.

“You’re either changing the sport and changing something people love and they hate you, or you’re just going along with everybody and they love you just for going along with the flow,” Lyles told Citius Mag after the race.

His desire to change the sport has received the backing of some prominent figures with Alexis Ohanian, the brains behind the women’s-only Athlos athletics event, agreeing with Lyles.

“Change is underway,” Ohanian, who is the husband to tennis legend Serena Williams, responded.

Ohanian organized a highly successful inaugural edition of the Athlos meet that had Olympics champions such as Gabby Thomas, Faith Kipyegon, Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith and Masai Russell participating with a $60,000 reward for winners of each race.

More is expected in this year’s edition while sprint legend Michael Johnson has also organized Grand Slam Track, a new event set to start this year, aimed at raising the profile of the sport where winners at the meet will be winning $100,000 per race in each of the four legs.

Lyles remains committed to changing the face of track and field and has spoken how the sport can compete with the others if they embrace new ways of doing things.
