Olympic champion Masai Russell has revealed a significant career announcent following her victory at the New Balance Grand Prix on February 2.

The sprint hurdler stormed to the win in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.80 seconds, edging out compatriot Grace Stark by just 0.01 seconds.

Reflecting on her triumph and the season ahead, Russell highlighted the importance of this victory in her professional career.

“It’s funny to say that this is my first pro win—I’m an Olympic champion, but I never won any race as a professional last year. So this is my first one. I’m going to keep these flowers, and it’s just been great,” she said via FloTrack after the race.

Russell acknowledged the intense training cycle she is currently undergoing but remained positive about her performance.

“Just keep building. I’m in a very heavy training cycle right now, so it was good to see this time come up. It’s a different year because the season is so much later, so it was a good run for today. I executed it pretty well, and I won—that’s all I wanted.”
