Football, music and the signature taste of Guinness came together this past weekend as Guinness Matchday made its much-anticipated return to Nairobi.
Held at Bar Next Door on Kiambu Road, the event delivered a football viewing experience like no other celebrating the passion of Premier League fans in Kenya.
Guests were welcomed with unique Guinness-inspired shandies, crafted to match the teams they supported. As an Arsenal fan, I opted for the Arsenal Shandy, a unique mix of condensed milk, Guinness syrup and Guinness Smooth.
The event was graced by renowned football personalities and entertainment icons while esteemed sports journalist Carol Radull and radio host Lotan Salapei hosted the event.
The main highlight of the evening was the Arsenal vs. Manchester City game. Arsenal scored within the first minute, setting the stage for an intense match that ended in their victory. Earlier, Crystal Palace had triumphed over Manchester United, adding to the excitement of the evening.
Guinness Marketing Manager Henrietta Reed expressed her enthusiasm for the return of Matchday to Nairobi. “We are incredibly excited to bring Guinness Matchday back to Nairobi. Nairobi is home to some of the most passionate Premier League fans in Kenya.”
Beyond just watching the games, fans were treated to interactive experiences. Quickfire trivia challenges kept the audience engaged, with one lucky reveller winning an all-expenses paid trip to England to watch their favourite Premier League team live.
Notable media personalities Willis Raburu, Erick Njiru and Nana Owiti were in attendance. The evening concluded with a musical performance by Bensoul, providing a fitting end to a lively weekend.
