Harvest time for Nairobi City Stars as they are set to pocket millions from midfielder’s Ksh473m transfer

The FKF Premier League club is set to receive a major windfall following the Harambee Stars midfielder’s Ksh473 million transfer to Czech giants Slavia Prague.

Nairobi City Stars are in line to pocket over Ksh 23 million from the transfer of Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy Ouma to Czech club Slavia Prague.

Ouma joined Slavia Prague in a deal reported to be worth 40 million Kronor (Ksh473 million) that was paid to Swedish club IF Elfsborg, who inserted a 20 percent sale clause, in the deal.

It means Elfsborg will be entitled to 20 percent of any future sale of the Kenyan midfielder by Slavia Prague but as the Swedish club begin to wait, it is harvest time for City Stars.

This is because the FKF Premier League club is viewed as the club who developed him before he left for Sweden in 2022 and they are set to benefit from a FIFA rule that protects clubs that develop talents.

Kenyan international Timothy Ouma ditched Swedish club Elfsborg for Slavia Prague and here is everything you need to know about the Czech giants.

As per the FIFA regulations, solidarity payments are distributed if the player transfers before the expiration of their contract. A five percent of the transfer fee is allocated to the clubs involved in the player’s training and development from when he was 12 to 23.

For 20-year-old Ouma, the five percent solidarity payment takes it to around Ksh23.5 million from the reported Ksh473 million transfer fee.

The money is shared among the clubs, if they are more than one, but City Stars will pocket the whole sum, having signed the player after he honed his skills at Laiser Hill Academy which is not a FIFA-recognised club.

This is the second high-profile transfer in which City Stars are pocketing big money after Victor Wanyama’s £12.5 million move to Southampton from Celtic in 2013, which saw them share a solidarity payment of over Ksh90 million at the time, with other clubs.

Done Deal: Timothy Ouma finally unveiled by Czech giants after Ksh473 million move

The Harambee Stars midfielder’s transfer to Czech Republic has finally been confirmed after signing a four-year deal with Slavia Prague.

Ouma has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract that will run up to June 2029 with the 21-time Czech champions and hopes to light up the league which will likely attract interest from other clubs in Europe.

If he transfer again before he turns 23, City Stars will be waiting in the wings to profit once more.
