Assistant President William Ruto, Farouk Kibet, has called on Kenyans to unite behind the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to run for the Chairman of the African Union (AUC).
Farouk Kibet wants Kenyans to support Raila
Kibet emphasized that Raila's election would cross ethnic positions, thus an important move to eradicate ethnicity in the country.
Referring to the issues of ethnic divisions, Kibet criticized people who oppose Raila for the presidency, noting that others even fast in hopes of his failure.
He said:
“There are people in Kenya now fasting so that Raila Odinga is not elected chairman. We pray for him to get the seat to remove ethnicity in Kenya;
Kibet's remarks focus on the ongoing issue in Kenyan politics, where election elections are often in line with ethnic identity.
In support of Raila's request for AUC, Kibet believes Kenya can move forward beyond these divisions and promote national unity.
Has Raila gained international support?
Raila campaigns for the AUC chair have gained a great international support.
The ODM leader has been cooperating with leaders across the continent to strengthen his campaign.
Minister of Environment Aden Duale He also demonstrated Raila's faith and victory, citing consent from several government officials.
Duale revealed that nine presidents who visited Kenya recently confirmed their support, and at least 11 East African leaders have approved Raila's intention.
He had also met with the President of the Central African Republic Faustin-Archange Touadéra to discuss his vision in the African Union, with the aim of strengthening relations with French-speaking countries.
Despite facing competition from candidates in Djibouti and Madagascar, Raila still hopes for his expectations.
He explained that he would accept the election results while stating that he was ready to continue to contribute to African development regardless of the outcome.
The election of the AUC chair is scheduled for February 25, 2025.
As the date is approaching, the call for national unity and the support of Raila's mission continues to grow, with defenders saying that its leadership can bring a new era of solidarity and development for Kenya and the African continent.
Which countries have vowed to vote for Raila?
Meanwhile, within the EAC, Raila has received support from Kenya, Uganda, TanzaniaBurundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and South Sudan.
Southern Africa, Angola has also assured Raila his vote with Eritrea from the IGAD region.
In addition, in West Africa, he has received the support of eight Ecowas nations, including Gambia, Togo, Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Liberia, and Nigeria.
