Ambrose Rachier explains why Gor Mahia need to conduct elections.
Gor Mahia have announced plans to hold elections within the next 90 days in compliance with a recent ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).
The tribunal deemed the current Executive Committee’s tenure unlawful, noting that their term expired on August 8, 2024.
Gor Mahia have confirmed a new head coach with vast international experience aiming to strengthen their dominance in Kenyan football.
However, the SDT has allowed the current officials to remain in office temporarily until the elections are conducted. The tribunal has mandated that the elections follow the club’s constitution and the Sports Act, 2013. Members registered by December 31, 2024, will be eligible to vote, in recognition of their legitimate expectation to participate in the elections.
Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier expressed the club’s intention to fully comply with the tribunal’s orders.
“We are more than happy to call the elections. Plans are to comply with the tribunal order, and on Tuesday we will appear for a mention at the tribunal. Afterward, we should be able to announce a roadmap, inviting interested candidates to express their interest,” Rachier told Citizen Digital.
From Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno’s close shave for Gor Mahia following Alphonce Omija’s winner against Posta Rangers to Shabana’s toothlessness against Kariobangi Sharks, here are the talking points from matchweek 19 of the FKFPL.
“However, I urge everyone not to put elections above the club’s interests. We are still hunting for this season’s title, and everything should be conducted responsibly,” he explained.
Rachier spoke during the unveiling of the club’s new head coach, Croat Sinisa Mihic on Monday.
The 48-year-old has been hired on a six-month contract, with the possibility of an extension based on his performance. Mihic takes over from interim coach Zedekiah Otieno, who has been leading the team since Brazilian coach Leonardo Neiva’s departure in November 2024.
K’Ogallo are currently third in the league standings with Kenya Police and Tusker Fc taking charge of the league title race.
