Kenya’s fast-rising comedienne, Millicent Ayumba, popularly known as Dem Wa Facebook, has spilt the beans on the intense criticism she faced after her then-boss, media personality Oga Obinna, decided to gift her a car.
Speaking during a live YouTube session with digital creator Mungai Eve on Monday, January 3, 2025, Dem Wa Facebook revealed that people, particularly women, flooded her with all sorts of harsh messages after the generous gift was unveiled.
The comedienne, who recently went viral after building her parents a luxurious home in Kitale, highlighted that one of her critics even labeled the car an Uber because of how small it was.
She shared that the woman filmed a video and posted it to social media on September 13, 2024—just a day after Obinna surprised her with the gift. In the video, she dismissed the car as insignificant, claiming it didn’t amount to anything remarkable.
“Unaona mimi nikigiftiwa Nissan March, kuna mtu dem alisema nilinunuliwa Uber. Ati yani alikaa chini akaona anunuliwe ka-Uber. Imagine! Dem alipiga video, waa. Yaani nagiftiwa gari leo, kesho napatana na hiyo video. Yaani walikaa chini wakaona wampee ka-Uber. Alidescribe hiyo gari mpaka nikaenda kwa parking nikasema, ‘Jameni! Yaani mimi mwenyewe nimependa gari lakini waa!’” the comedienne noted.
Having two cars
As the comedienne chatted with Eve, she repeatedly sidestepped the topic of having two cars, even though Eve brought it up multiple times.
At one point, Dem Wa Facebook actually laughed when she realized Eve was deliberately bringing it up just to get a comment from her and denied that she owned two cars.
However, just a few weeks ago, the comedienne had posted a video on her TikTok, showing herself driving a flashy new Mazda and announcing that she had gifted herself a new ride.
In the video, she didn’t reveal the car’s full body or plates, explaining that she didn’t want it to be caught in the social media limelight like her Nissan March.
While sharing the video, the comedienne declared that 2025 was going to be her year and that the new car marked a step in the right direction, as she was setting her sights on big goals, including traveling abroad.
“This is my other car. Staki muone number plate vile mmezoea hiyo ingine nikipita, mnanisalimia. This is my car. I have a car. See you, saa hii naenda kutembea kidogo. Mwaka akili ichangamke kidogo. Hii ndiyo mwaka yetu 2025. Huu mwaka lazima mvunjike mbavu. Lazima mniite US na Canada niperform,” she said.
However, she hasn’t shared anything about the new car since then, and she typically posts herself driving the red Nissan March.
The comedienne was gifted the car on September 12, 2024, in a lavish ceremony by her then-boss, Oga Obinna, at a time when their relationship was at its peak.
The car was a complete surprise, and Dem Wa Facebook broke into tears upon seeing the gesture, sharing that it was the best day of her life.
