Gor Mahia finally confirm Sinisa Mihic as new head coach

Gor Mahia have confirmed a new head coach with vast international experience aiming to strengthen their dominance in Kenyan football.

Gor Mahia on Monday confirmed the worst-kept secret of 2025 as they announced Croatian Sinisa Mihic as their head coach.

Reports circulated for days that the experienced tactician would take charge at K’Ogalo, and the club has now made it official.

Mihic, who has coached in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, brings a wealth of experience to the Kenyan champions as they look to strengthen their grip on domestic and regional football.

Roy Mutimba, who is based in the USA, was drafted into the Kenya U-17 squad last December, a reward for years of hard work trying to make it as a professional footballer.

Mihic ended his most recent role as an assistant coach at Kuwaiti side Al-Salmiya SC in 2022, a stint that followed his time in Croatia, where he managed NK Crikvenica during the 2020/21 season.

The Croatian’s appointment at Gor Mahia comes as the club seeks stability and tactical discipline, key attributes that have made him a sought-after coach.

The clearest indication that Mihic was set to take over at Gor Mahia came when reports emerged that the club had narrowed down their search to a shortlist of seven candidates.

Mihic was consistently regarded as one of the top names, with insiders hinting that he was the frontrunner for the job.

Gor Mahia ended the 2023/24 FKF Premier League season as champions but struggled in continental competitions.

The club’s leadership believes Mihic can bring a fresh approach that will elevate their performances beyond domestic dominance. The Croatian tactician is expected to work closely with Gor Mahia’s technical team and introduce a more structured, disciplined playing style.

Mihic has built a reputation as a coach who blends youth development with competitive success.

His managerial journey began in the 2009/10 season when he served as an assistant manager at Sudanese giants Al-Merrikh SC.

He later held a similar role at UAE’s Al-Nasr during the 2010/11 campaign before landing his first senior managerial position with Al-Ahli Youth in the 2012/13 season.

Following his initial success, Mihic transitioned into youth development, taking charge of Al-Fahaheel SC’s youth team in 2013.

His impact was significant, earning him a promotion as the club’s senior team manager in 2014, a position he held for two seasons. He later managed Al-Shabab in the 2019/20 season before moving to Croatia.

Gor Mahia officials have expressed confidence that Mihic’s diverse coaching experience will be crucial for the club’s long-term ambitions.

The club has been seeking a manager who can integrate local talent into the first team while maintaining the high competitive standards required to excel in both the domestic league and continental tournaments.

“We want a coach who understands our philosophy and ambitions. Mihic has worked in different environments and knows how to handle pressure, which is crucial for a club of our stature,” a source within Gor Mahia’s management stated.

Reports suggest Mihic will bring in a team of technical staff to assist him in implementing his strategies.

The club’s leadership believes that his tactical approach, coupled with his emphasis on discipline and structure, will help Gor Mahia remain dominant in Kenyan football while making significant progress in continental competitions.

On-song Ryan Ogam opens up on the 'pressure' he had to score his maiden goal for Harambee Stars

Ogam made his unofficial debut for Harambee Stars at the Mapinduzi Cup in Pemba Islands earlier this year and scored a goal against Tanzania.

Gor Mahia fans will be hoping that Mihic’s arrival signals the beginning of a new era of success.

The club has historically dominated the Kenyan league but has struggled to make a lasting impact in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

The appointment of a coach with experience in different footballing cultures is expected to provide the team with a tactical edge.
