Sha’Carri Richardson has been at the forefront when it comes to defending the rights of track and field athletes.

The Olympic 100m silver medallist further pointed out that it is unfair when athletes only focus on their gains and not that of the whole ecosystem of the track and field athletes.

“I want to be at the forefront and I’m willing to be that sacrificial lamb for the simple fact of years and generations have gone by and nobody has said anything,” Sha’Carri Richardson told the Citius Magazine.

“The top people have literally gotten their dollars and walked away from the sport not worried about the little guy and that’s not fair because we all want the same thing.”

She explained that the next generation of athletes needs to be aware of the dynamics of the sport and learn how to navigate around the tough times.

Sha’Carri Richardson noted that whether she loses or wins, she will always be out to speak up for all the athletes and ensure that their needs are met.

“We want the next generation to be themselves and I want to be the beacon that you say you want others to be,” Sha’Carri Richardson said.

“So definitely that’s why I’m always going no matter if I win-lose, win or draw, I stand in my confidence, I stand in my divine spirit at the end of the day, we are just not the flesh.”
