Here’s all you need to know about Kenyan marathon great Hellen Obiri.

The Olympic marathon bronze medallist is wary of the tough competition that awaits her, revealing that everyone will be plotting to stop her from winning her third successive title.

She identified world marathon champion Amane Beriso, who finished second at the 2023 Boston Marathon, as a potential threat, further revealing that it is difficult to rule out veteran Edna Kiplagat, Irine Cheptai and the upcoming stars.

“I’m under pressure because if you look at the entries of women, they are very strong, we have strong Kenyans and Ethiopians and we have strong Americans,” Hellen Obiri said in an interview shared by Tata Sports.

“Everybody will be looking at Hellen Obiri, at how she will compete in her third marathon in Boston so I’m trying to make it happen.

“That pressure helps me in training. In Kenya, you have to be in top shape to be included in the Kenyan team and if I’m selected, I will do my best.”

Obiri added that she will have to do her final touches in the US, about two weeks before the race. She explained that travelling from Kenya to Boston directly is a tedious task and she would rather go to Boston from Boulder, Colorado where she lives and trains in the US.

She is confident that her training will go well and she will stay free from injuries as she chases success in the streets of Boston one more time.

“I have less than three months to the Boston Marathon and I have 12 weeks of training of which I started training officially on Monday and so far, so good, things are going on so well,” added Obiri.

“We need to be healthy and focused to be injury-free. For now, I’m training for about two-and-a-half months before I go to the US for final touches. I know defending my title is going to be tough and I have to work extra hard.”
