The American sprint queen has defended her decision to fire back hater who questioned whether she is intelligent enough while opening up on challenges women in sport face.
Olympics champion Gabby Thomas has revealed why she saw the need to reply to a hater who questioned her intellect.
Thomas found herself clapping back to an X user who questioned whether she is intelligent enough, reminding him that she is actually a graduate from Harvard University.
“Gabby Thomas doesn’t sound like she’s the brightest out there,” the X user commented, regarding the three-time Olympics gold medalist.
“You’re probably right, darn my Harvard degree,” Thomas fired back.
Now, the sprinter has weighed in on why she felt compelled to put the hater in his place, explaining the difficulties women in sports face, forcing them to be aggressive at times.
“Being a woman in sports you get subjected to this all the time on the internet and sometimes, I just have time. And sometimes when I am on the plane, don’t catch me because I will clap back,” Thomas said on Not Gonna Lie with Kyle Kelce.
However, the sprinter’s response opened her to further scrutiny with some in the comments section claiming she did not rightfully earn her place at Harvard.
Thomas expressed her disappointment that her race and gender are still being used as a tool to discredit her success, something that forces her and others in her position to offer some subtle replies.
The Olympics champion has revealed the emotional reaction following her surprise selection to feature on the cover of the renown fashion magazine.
“And I am like okay, get off your high horse, I don’t know where you are coming from and if you read the comments, they are actually awful. At the end of the day, I don’t have anything to prove to them but the clap backs are always hilarious,” she added.
Thomas has a Degree in Neurobiology and Global Health from the prestigious Harvard University, and Master’s in Public Health, but decided to focus on her sprints career, which has been rewarding, as she now has Olympics gold medals in 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m relays from the Paris 2024 Games.
