Wadagliz trademarks ‘Anguka Nayo’ phrase and logo

Arbantone music group Wadagliz has cautioned members of the public against the use of their popular phrase Anguka Nayo and logo.

In an official letter posted on its Instagram account on Thursday evening, January 30, 2025, the group disclosed that it has officially trademarked along with the logo adding that any unauthorized use, reproduction or commercial exploitation of the trademark without an explicit written contract henceforth will be met with legal action.

“We are pleased to inform our fans, supporters, and the general public that the song Anguka Nayo has officially been copyrighted and the logo trademarked.

“We hereby warn against any unauthorized use, reproduction, or commercial. exploitation of the trademark without our explicit written consent which will henceforth be met with legal action including, but is not limited to:
Cease and desist orders,

“Fines and penalties as prescribed by the Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) and applicable laws
Potential lawsuits seeking damages for infringement,” the statement reads in part.

The Anguka Nayo hitmakers further added that they are now the official owners of the song and its intellectual property, in partnership with the hood music label.

“We remain committed to protecting our intellectual property and ensuring that our brand identity is preserved.
Additionally, From The Hood Music and Wadagliz are now jointly the registered proprietors of the song and its intellectual property,” Wadagliz said.

Anguka Nayo song

The Anguka Nayo hit song gained momentum in 2024 during the anti-government protests becoming a popular tune that resonated with many.

According to the data released by the search engine on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the hit song featured on Google’s most searched items in Kenya, it was categorically placed under trending lyrics of the year.

On Saturday, December 14, 2024, the song was pulled down from YouTube, however, it was reinstated later on.

In their statement, the duo which lost their popular song that had amassed a total of 8 million views on YouTube, decried being sabotaged due to jealousy.

They particularly pointed accusing fingers at Hood Boyz, whom they faulted for their predicaments.

“This crew pulled down “Anguka Nayo” just because of envy towards the song,” they wrote on their official Instagram page.
