Kenyan officials get tips on sound financial management at FIFA Financial Governance workshop in Ghana

The Kenyan delegation is among a host of countries in Accra, Ghana attending the FIFA Financial Governance workshop aimed at equipping them on sound management skills.

Kenya is among countries represented at the FIFA Financial Governance workshop taking place in Accra, Ghana.

The three-day FIFA Financial organized workshop opened in the Ghanaian capital, highlighting the importance of financial governance for Member Associations.

The course, which started on Wednesday, is aimed at enhancing financial governance and also boosting the financial strategy of Member Associations.

Topics being discussed include financial management, accountability, transparency, and efficient resource use within football organizations.


Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga and new FKF boss Hussein Mohammed visited the embassy of Qatar on Wednesday in what could be a ground breaking move for Kenyan football.


Besides Kenya, hosts Ghana, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe are also represented with the General Secretaries and Chief Financial Officers of each Member Association also in attendance.

Ghana Football Association Vice President Mark Addo opened the workshop in Accra, underscoring the importance of sound financial governance, something new Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed has been keen on since taking over in December.

The new FKF office formed a committee aimed at conducting a comprehensive audit on the federation’s finances and the workshop like the one in Accra will equip the new office with the requisite skills to run a financially sustainable federation.

FIFA’s Head of Financial Governance Christopher Suppiger, Director of Reforms Implementation Lucca Piazza, Meryem Atouk, FIFA’s Finance Services Manager, Andrea Portabella, Senior Capacity Development and Education Manager, Silmara Sousa and Regional Coordinator for Africa, and Raissa Toure, FIFA Division Office Coordinator are leading the workshop.
