Strong fighting has erupted in Goma, a major trade and transportation center in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the M23 rebels and the national army shooting at each other.
The M23 group, led by Tutsi Tutsis, claimed they resumed fighting in 2021 after a previously neglected peace agreement, despite their inclusion in the military in 2012.

Rwanda has not denied supporting the rebels but accuses the Congolese government of supporting militants aiming to overthrow the Kigali leadership, according to the BBC.

In a state of shock, the Kenyan embassy in Kinshasa was attacked by angry protesters for the collapse of the city of Goma to the M23 rebels.
Part of the embassy was burned, similar to those of UgandaSudan, and Rwanda, raising serious concerns about the safety of the officers at the centers.
The incident has created a lot of emotions from Kenyans, many of whom expressed sympathy for embassy officials and demanded peace.

The government responds to attacks against the Kenyan embassy in the DRC
At the same time, the Kenyan government has called on the Congolese government to take immediate action to restore stability and protect their diplomatic embassies.
Foreign Minister Korir Sing'oei called on Kenyans in the DRC to be cautious while confirming that two embassy officers were forced to escape to secure security.
The government assured Kenyans that they had partnered with the Congolese government which vowed to compensate Kenya for the damage caused.
