Talanta Stadium contractor on when the venue will be ready for use

Talanta Sports City stadium contractor has provided update on when the venue will be potentially ready for use.

The Kenyan government has provided an update on the progress of the multi-billion Talanta Sports City Stadium, currently under construction and set to be the centerpiece of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, will co-host the continental football tournament, with Talanta Sports City playing a crucial role in the event.

The soccer-specific, 60,000 seater-stadium will serve as the primary venue for the competition, supplementing the under-renovation Kasarani Stadium, Nyayo National Stadium, and Kipchoge Keino Stadium.

On Tuesday, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Permanent Secretary Peter Tum met with Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and representatives from the contractor, China Roads and Bridges Corporation, to assess the progress of construction.

Sports CS Salim Mvurya has given an update over the progress of Talanta Sports City, which will host the 2027 AFCON following an imprompt visit to the ground on Tuesday afternoon.

Following the meeting, the government reassured the public that the project remains on schedule and will be completed by December 2025.

“The contractor assured that work is on schedule, with completion expected by December 2025. This timeline allows for testing ahead of the 2026 handover to CAF. Talanta Sports City is Kenya’s main stadium for AFCON 2027,” stated the Department of Sports in a release following the meeting.

Recent footage from the site at Jamhuri Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi, as seen by Pulse Sports, confirms that construction is progressing well, with most of the foundation already laid.

The stadium could potentially be used in 2026 before hosting the continental football extravaganza in 2027.
