Shabana FC winger Ezekiel Omari has emerged as a rising star in Kenyan football, being tipped for a bright future with theKenyan national team, Harambee Stars.
Omari’s recent exploits for the Gusii-based side have not only boosted Shabana’s campaign in the FKF Premier League but have also caught the attention of fans and coaches alike.
The youngsters solitary goal against Sofapaka on Sunday at the Dandora Stadium secured all three points for Shabana, propelling the Tore Bobe further up the KPL standings.
This decisive moment followed another heroic performance where he scored the match-winner in a high-profile clash against Tusker FC.
These contributions have been pivotal for Shabana, who now sit fifth in the KPL standings with 27 points, just one point behind defending champions Gor Mahia and KCB, who are tied in third and fourth positions. Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC lead the league with 36 points, separated only by goal difference.
Shabana’s head coach Peter Okidi has been vocal about Omari’s potential, tipping the youngster for a bright future with the Harambee Stars.
“I think it’s just about giving him the playing time,” said Okidi in the post match interview against Sofapaka.
“We encourage him every match. When he makes a mistake, we rectify it and continue to encourage him. When he sees that you have confidence in him, he develops confidence in himself. He is a boy that will help this team and even the national team in the days to come.”
Gor Mahia are rumored to be in talks with Ugandan striker Charles Bbaale plying his trade in the Rwandan league.
Omari himself attributes his recent success to patience, hard work, and the unwavering support of his coaches.
“It has been patience on my part,” he reflected.
“Every player eventually has his moment, so when you have the patience and the moment comes, God provides. To my coaches so far, I can say thank you for trusting in me. It has not been easy, but they have been encouraging me, telling me to be patient, and preparing me. Now we are seeing the results.”
Omari’s performances have come at a crucial time, as Harambee Stars gear up for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in August.
