Legislator calls for establishment of a registration centre – Kenya News Agency






Marakwet West MP Timothy Toroitich has called on the department of civil registration to establish a registration centre in Kapcherop in the farthest corner of the county to assist residents from the area acquire important government documents.

The MP who was speaking during a visit at the Iten Huduma centre said residents from the area have not been accessing National Identity cards, births and death certificates due to the distance.

Toroitich said he had talked to the PS in charge to have a registration centre established saying residents are forced to spend over Sh1,000 to travel to Iten or Kapsowar offices which majority of them cannot afford.

He pointed out that the transport cost in addition to the Sh1000 charges one is required to pay to get the documents have become a big hindrance to the residents especially the youth who have reached the age to acquire IDs which they require to transact official businesses.

The MP said he was willing to collaborate with the Huduma centre to finance a Huduma mashinani exercise in Kapcherop to enable the residents acquire the important documents.

The Huduma centre manager Naphtali Korir said they will take their services to Kapcherop in the next two weeks noting that apart from registration they will also take all other services offered by the centre.
